Although society is slowly changing that mentality and is now more open to the idea that other skin colors can be just as beautiful, Filipinos still tend to aspire for that ‘mestiza’ skin. This is probably why it’s always such a big deal when formerly dark or ‘morena’-skinned women suddenly have whiter skin. Suddenly, they become deemed as ‘beautiful’, and this netizen’s skin transformation is no exception.
Photos of a certain netizen named Erika ‘Cai’ Cortez have been making rounds online because of the unbelievable physical transformation she had. Cai posted a throwback photo which showed a thinner, younger, and darker-skinned version of herself. It was her graduation photo, so she was wearing an all-white toga while proudly holding her diploma.
This sent netizens into a frenzy, because they could not believe that it was her in that graduation photo. Looking at Cai’s social media pictures now, one can easily see that she is a light-skinned, lean woman, a far cry from her old self. With her gorgeous looks, she could even pass for a model!
Now, because there are always people who will be jealous and who are incapable of being happy for others, her photos sparked a debate as to how she achieved her new look. A lot of netizens suggested that Cai had herself injected with copious amounts of glutathione, while some opined that she might have used whitening scrubs or soaps.

To put an end to the speculations, Cai Cortez herself explained that she has been using Kojic soap, a kind of whitening soap that has gained popularity in the Philippines.
Still, others were not content with Cai’s revelation of her ‘beauty secret’. There were netizens who said her transformation from a dark-skinned lady to a more beautiful and fair-skinned one is much too drastic to be caused only by a mere soap. Some even shared how they have already used up boxes of the said whitening soap but to no avail.
Whatever she did to achieve the way she looks now, we’re just glad that Cai seems happier and more confident that ever.
